OOh it is my birthday.

Yay. One year older now.
Here is what i got from my friend. A block of Dagoba choc ! YUm (More pictures later)

I have finished 1 sock, another one on the way. I love these Baltic socks. But they are really knitting very slowly.

Look how long it is. I have never knitted such a long sock. Long and painstaking. That's all for now; going to dress up for some dinner and fun tonight. :) Muacks

My birthday is coming. June 24

You understand people well and are a natural born therapist.A peacemaker, people always seem to get along when you are around. You tend to be a father or mother figure to friends, even to those older than you.You enjoy your role, and you find that you are close to many people.
Your strength: Your devotion
Your weakness: Reliance on others for happiness
Your power color: Lilac
Your power symbol: Heart
Your power month: June
What Does Your Birth Date Mean?
That's Right ! I am turning 23 in a few days time. 23, freshly graduated and jobless.
I am so compelled to buy some yarns or knitting books to spoil myself. Since, i am relatively broke now, how does one sustain a knitting habit on a shoestring budget ? anyone ?

wow.. yarns i have to try!

Look at all these sock yarns with beautiful colourways. To see more eye candy, you can go to sweetgeorgiayarns. She is such a genius. I have got to order these for myself soon.

World cup knitalong

Nothing much has been done these few days except for Baltic socks. BY the way, i have even joined the World cup knitalong to spur my knitting on. 1 sock down, 1 more on its way. I will post the pictures up asap. I hope i wouldn't take too long to knit the second sock. I seriously hate it when my knitting is progressing so sluggishly. There are just too many " Gotta knit sweater, socks, legwarmers, bags.. and the list goes on" on my wandering mind. My fingers are simply not catching up.

Anyway, KNit On

Baltic Socks

Here are some pictures of Baltic Socks by clementine. Isn't it lovely? But my eyes are coming out, so i am resting them. hehe.

Hrmmm...surprise to say, this sock fits my wrist so well. Will it be different when worn as a proper sock ? It does looks convincing as a wristwarmer though.

I have completely missed out on World Wide Knitting in Public day ! I didn't even realised it until today. I guess i have missed the fun.

But i can still knit on the tram, can't i?

Back to projects, I am knitting Baltic Socks by Clementine's Shoes. It has an uncanny resemblance of Ebossed leaves socks of Interweave knits. As for Pomatomus, i am giving it a rest. There were just too many holes forming whenever i did the yo, k2tog tbl. I was sure i did it right. But after several rounds later, it just didn't make sense. It is a very beautiful intricate pattern. I feel really bad for not able to 'follow' instructions. So Baltic socks are a great pick me up after having my knitting ego crushed. It has the same complexity but this baby does not bite. ( It chews!)

The World Cup is a great way to get my socks going. After a marathon of 3 matches, i have completed almost half of the first sock. With my eyes darting from pattern to my knitting and back to the tv, I have cheated my way out of multitasking and also motivating myself to knit as fast as i can ( Eg. Finish the 10 row repeat* pattern by half time/ or 2 repeats by full 90 mins)

It is a fantastic way to entertain myself when the match gets boring. So, i am doing it again tonight.
Pictures of Baltic Socks will be up when the sun is out ! I realise that flashes do not do the yarns any justice.

By the way, I can't find any more copies of Rebecca no. 27 for my Apricot jacket. I am so depressed now. To all knitters out there, if you happen to own the pattern, i would love to buy it from you, even the photocopied version of the pattern.
Please contact me....:(

I am in love with...

Apricot Jacket ! Cliche ? not for me. This beautiful feminine cardigan has been floating around blogsphere for as long as i remember. I am going to get my hands on the yarns and rebecca magazine no.27. It will be all worthwhile because of 4 fantastic reasons:

1. Winter is here. (as if the cardigan is warm enough...)
2. It will be a great birthday present for myself.
3. I think i have progress to a stage whereby i could knit a sweater.
4. I won't have to worry about dressing up in the morning ( plus knitting a cardigan is killing 2 birds with 1 stone = an excuse to knit and adding another garment for my bursting wardrobe.)

But i am very slim and waifish, hence i am just afraid that i will not get the right fit according to the instructions. I would have to adjust my gauge tremendously.

Remember the dark red vintage yarn from the expo. I spent 2 hours winding it into a ball as the yarn kept breaking into small chunks. So much for 'vintage'. The spinning isn't doing any justice to the silky yarn.
One big skein of yarn becomes like this after 2 tormenting hours. 8 odd balls and some offensive short strands. I guess it couldn't use it to knit socks. How am i suppose to knit with so many odd balls when they are all from the same skein ?
Sobbs. What a waste of money!

mini yarn expo review

The yarn expo didn't live up to its standards this year. I fondly remembered the previous expo i went 2 years ago. It had more vibes and ambience that a proper knitting expo should exhibit. But this year, it was a lonely and unpatronised place. There wasn't exactly a large range of yarns. Well, a blog isn't a good place to complain. Anyway, I left with these socks yarns

This blue yarn will be for my pomatomus socks !

Holly Golightly Knits too

I stumbled upon a picture of Audrey Hepburn knitting. It is so encouraging to see another famous girl knitting, adding extra faith and strength into our knitting community proving that knitting is no grandmother's craft!

In Breakfast at Tiffany's, dear Audrey knitted her way out of troubled and boring times while she lived alone in an apartment with a cat.

What more can i say ?!

Should i attempt Pomatomus socks ?

It is all over blogsphere. Almost every blog i visit has an entry about Pomatomus socks from Knitty. I downloaded the pattern and studied it. It wasn't exactly a simple sock pattern. In fact, this baby is piquant ! Spicy with a bite! What exactly is k tbl ? knit the loop at the back ?
I tried it with my green yarn from camberwell market. But it just didn't work. The 'beautiful' yarn splitted and fell apart. So much for my ironical excitement for a $3 yarn ! ( i am a #^*>% cheapo)

It was daunting and stressful. Never have i knitted something that makes me frustrated. Isn't knitting suppose to be relaxing ?!Well, the yarn has to take a back sit now, together with my stash.

Speaking of stash, tomorrow is stash enhancement expedition day ! I am going to Coburg mini yarn expo ! Gonna buy all the beautiful sock yarns and knit more socks. If i can find a stunning aqua-marine colour, it will be for my Pomatomus !

Second sock...
Almost done, but progressing slowly. Before i knew it, it is doned. All Knited up ! My very first pair of handknitted socks. It feels so satisfying to wear them in a cold apartment.
There, resting by the couch quilt.

A closer look !( pardon the brightness)

I took a little break from knitting and whipped up a batch of eclairs. Some of them doesn't look right because of my laziness for not making enough chocolate icing. Yum
